About this work
This painting by Sheri Jo Posselt is a portrait of a man named Pa. He was 80 years old in this image and has a swollen elbow from gout. The hammer in his grasp was there most of his life. He was a carpenter, but could be seen cracking Hickory nuts on a block as on the ground by the vegetables at his feet. He gave everyone brown bags of his harvest every year. The cane pole propped on the shore with the chair has a red and white bobber floating in the waters of Lake Poygan. He loved to fishing and shared his catch with many who crossed the threshold into his home.
