My Mane House

About this work

"My Mane Home" was painted upside down from what you see here. The Client has given artist Sheri Jo Posselt permission to tell the story behind this 30 minute intuitive painting session. Here it is from the artist's perspective: The woman walked up to my booth at the Amoterra Wellness fair, I had met her briefly once before and knew she had a love of horses. Sometimes it is hard to paint intuitively when you know things about a person, because you have to let go of everything you know to give them what is really the image meant for them. The Client sat down across from me, I held her hands, closed my eyes and saw a rough image of what you see here but it was upside down. I sometimes am my worst critic and I said to myself, "No way! It must be a mistake! I know she loves horses and so do I. I would love to paint her one of these exquisite animals, but this has to be me interfering! I looked again and there was no mistake, I saw what you see flipped." Opening my eyes I said to her, "I am confused I don't know what I am suppose to do here, but I guess I will just paint it as I saw it and let it evolve itself out." This is one I wish I had a time lapse video of. First the brushed put the reddish color down, then the blue completely outlining the horse making it appear white. This was done without me telling her I saw a horse, or what color it was. I had seen it as dark, it is a process. When she recognized what it was, she started to tear up and I felt overwhelmed with both of our emotions and teared up as well. I explained to her my thoughts as written out above and then said, "I don't know why I was to paint the horse upside down?" and then it hit me! The turn vision was the perfect perspective for her and then I understood; The horse image was not me and my desire to paint a horse for a horse lover. It was for her! I was a little disheartened when I smudged up and took off some of the horse's butt. She waited until It was complete and the told me, " You just painted all three of my horses in one! The first outlined white one was a rescue horse she had just purchased and taking out her phone she showed me a photo of it, next she went to another photo of a brown horse, Warm Blood and showed me it and the fact that it has no butt compared to other horses, and the last again teary eyed, she zoomed into a photo of a brown horses head and pointed out its eye had damage showing up bluish white. She told me when I kept playing with the paint by the eye she knew. The client titled this after telling me the reddish color is the unique color of her barn and is where she calls home. I suggested using the word "mane" instead of "main", because I like using play on words. There you have it, my mane event in detail.
