Ebony

Ebony, I trained her myself, she was my companion and friend for thirteen years. In 2005, my family and I went on vacation in Upper Michigan. We took Ebony and our mini horse Ginger. After only being there for a day, Ebony started stumbling and falling, she was only 18 years old. With the help of a vet in the U.P. and my vet back home we treated her for Equine Parasite Meningitis. It is a parasite which burrows into the horse's spinal cord, causing her to lose control. She was down. Leaving her in the field so she wouldn't stumble into the stall walls, we gave her medicine and had to turn her over every two to three hours. We slept beside her in our truck with our gun, to keep away the wolves, coyotes, and other predators. She lived for four days, on the third we saw improvement. On the fourth we knew she went the other way. The awful decision was decided. I cried and tears fell out of her eyes as well. She is now in the fields of Heaven. My sweet Ebony.
